Upgrade to cost-effective Xpress3.Cardiac™ software equalizes image quality for all department cameras
Auburndale, Mass., June 26, 2014 –UltraSPECT, provider of the only multi-vendor and most cost-effective imaging solution for meeting the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) low dose guidelines, announces today that Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Michigan has upgraded its nuclear medicine (NM) image reconstruction software to UltraSPECT Xpress3.Cardiac™. As a result, all patients receiving NM exams now have exams in half the time, with half the dose, regardless of the model or age of camera being used.
"By upgrading to the UltraSPECT Xpress3.Cardiac™, we have standardized the care we provide our patients irrespective of the camera we use,” explained Jay Pockyarath, Administrator, Cardiovascular & Imaging Services, Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. “This was an important decision for us as the imaging community is undergoing a movement to lower patient dose."
An UltraSPECT customer for many years, Henry Ford Wyandotte, part of the Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System, was previously providing half-time exams with the first generation of the Xpress product. UltraSPECT’s Xpress3.Cardiac™ solution uses the company’s exclusive WBRTM (Wide-Beam Reconstruction) technology to deliver half-dose cardiac imaging with high image quality equivalent to full time imaging exams. The software provides the same results on any camera, enabling every patient to get half-time exams at half the dose. Additionally, it can also minimize the radiation dose to the staff administering the exams as well.
“It is now common place for Nuclear Medicine imaging departments to have cameras from different vendors, and with more than a decade’s difference in technology. By using UltraSPECT Xpress3.Cardiac™, hospitals will not have to select which patient gets full dose, and which patient gets half dose,” said Yossi Srour, president and CEO, UltraSPECT. “Our priority is to help assure that every patient who needs a nuclear exam is receiving the lowest possible dose.”
The Henry Ford Wyandotte NM department has an average annual procedure volume of between 4500 – 5000, with about 50 percent being cardiac scans, and 20 percent bone scans. In addition to low-dose benefits, the Xpress3.Cardiac™ solution has also provided significant benefits for radiologists reading bone scans. The image reconstruction parameters enable clearer images for diagnosis, with the potential to provide less dose to larger-sized patients.
